My pool loses water when the pump is running. What should I tell the technician?

The observations that help a technician investigate changing water levels, without guessing which pipe is leaking.

Record the pattern you have noticed

Note the water level, the time you checked it and when the pump ran. Mention whether the pool and spa were operating together, whether water features were on, and whether the auto-fill added water. Photos of the same marked water level can make your observations easier to explain.

A pattern is a clue, not a pipe diagnosis

A difference between pump operation and idle periods can help guide an investigation. It does not establish which line or fitting is responsible. Plumbing layout, valves, shared spa equipment and changing test conditions all matter. Pressure testing isolates lines so a technician can investigate them individually.

Keep your normal schedule unless advised otherwise

Share the schedule you already use rather than changing equipment settings to prove a theory. If another comparison would help, ask the technician how to run it for your particular system. You do not need to identify the leak before contacting us.

What to send with your request

Include your city, whether you have a pool, spa or both, how long the loss has been happening and any recent equipment work. Tell us about wet areas, visible drips or air in the system as observations, even if you are unsure whether they are related.
